GAO Rejects Sikorsky’s Protest Over Army’s FLRAA Contract

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has denied a protest filed by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, challenging the award of a lucrative Army helicopter contract to Bell Textron, Inc. The contract, worth up to $7 billion, is for the development of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA), a new vertical lift aircraft that will replace the UH-60 Black Hawk utility fleet.

Pacific Ocean – before dawn… US Navy flight deck crew ready a San Diego, California-based USCG HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter for launch from the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). The mission took place 15 December 2008 tasked to rescue an injured merchant sailor from a Liberian cargo ship. The patient was successfully rescued from the civilian vessel, flown to the Lincoln to stabilize his condition and then transported onward to San Francisco for additional care.
