Airlines Adapt To New York Regional ATC Summer Shortages

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the agency responsible for regulating civil aviation in the United States, has published a notice of limited, conditional waiver of the minimum usage requirement that applies to Operating Authorizations (OA), also known as slots, at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The waiver allows airlines to temporarily reduce their scheduled flights at these congested airports without losing their slots, due to a shortage of air traffic controllers at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (N90) facility.

Archer Aviation and United Airlines Plan Chicago eVTOL Service by 2025

United Airlines (UAL) and Archer Aviation (Archer) plan to launch Chicago’s first electric air taxi service in 2025, connecting O’Hare International Airport with Vertiport Chicago, a facility located near the city’s downtown area. The service will use Archer’s Midnight aircraft, which are electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles that can carry four passengers and one pilot. The flight time between the airport and the city center will be about 10 minutes, compared to more than an hour by car during peak traffic, according to Archer.

FAA Grounds 787 Dreamliners

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded the Boeing 787 Dreamliner due to the mounting evidence of problems with the aircraft’s lithium battery sub-system. The move follows an earlier announcement by the agency of a review of the Dreamliner’s safety, design and the certification process that lead to its approval for air carrier operations.
