Hubble Space Telescope Gets Glasses

When the Hubble Space Telescope was launched, unknown to NASA and its JPL scientists there was a problem with a mirror inside. This video explains the mistake and how NASA went about to fix the trouble using science and careful research.

Illustrated by spectacular Hubble Space Telescope pictures, archival video and interviews with the scientists, students will learn how Hubble went from an embarrassment to one of the most important scientific instruments in history.

Educators please note that this is the story of the first Hubble repair mission, not the flight in 2009. It provides a foundation for classroom discussion of the final Hubble repair and a theoretical basis for optical science fair projects in optics and astronomy.
