This night picture of an MV-22 Osprey Tiltrotor aircraft in Iraq has become rather popular and widely re-published. And it is no wonder, there is a strange and beautiful blend of astro photography, combat operations, high technology and esprit de corps. Astro photo you say? Yes, if you look carefully you can see stars in the nighttime sky above the Marine Corps vertical lift aircraft. This V-22 picture was captured while the tiltrotor was refueled prior to the start of a mission in central Iraq.

Pacific Ocean – before dawn… US Navy flight deck crew ready a San Diego, California-based USCG HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter for launch from the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). The mission took place 15 December 2008 tasked to rescue an injured merchant sailor from a Liberian cargo ship. The patient was successfully rescued from the civilian vessel, flown to the Lincoln to stabilize his condition and then transported onward to San Francisco for additional care.

Soldiers from Task Force Eagle deliver humanitarian supplies to a remote village in northern Pakistan via their U.S. Army Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter. People in that area, devastated by the October 8 earthquake, are in desperate need of food, winter clothing and other supplies, as snow has blanketed much of the area.

Seventeen C-17 Globemaster III aircraft fly over the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia during low level tactical training on December 20, 2005.
