Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo and WhiteKnightTwo Revealed

The world's first civilian, commercial, non-government funded passenger carrying spacecraft, Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo, and its carrier aircraft WhiteKnightTwo, were shown to the world for the first time on 23 January 2008 at a press conference in New York.

Built by the Magician of Mojave, Burt Rutan (Scaled Composites), both vehicles are clearly derived from the record setting duo of SpaceShipOne and its WhiteKnight launch plane. The combination of SpaceShipOne and WhiteKnight won the Ansari X Prize in 2004.

Funded by innovative businessman Richard Branson and his start-up Virgin Galactic, the spaceship has enticed over 200 people from countries around the world to place deposits for the over two hundred thousand dollar trip ($200,000 USD), according to the firm.
