Here is your quick video guide to October 2014 stargazing and sky-watching of the astronomy events visible in the night sky: There is a total lunar eclipse, a partial solar eclipse, and an encounter between Mars and comet Siding Spring!

There is a lunar eclipse on 8 October in the late hours of the night; the second of the year.

On 19 October Mars and comet Siding Spring will pass within 81,000 miles of each other, but the comet may be difficult to see with even powerful amateur telescopes... don't let that stop you from trying!

There is also a partial solar eclipse in the late afternoon of 23 October.
